SLE: Public Service Commission Second Language Evaluation (Canada)
The Public Service Commission’s Second Language Evaluation (SLE) is the official assessment used by the Public Service Commission of Canada (PSC) to measure French or English proficiency among federal employees. It is mandatory for all bilingual positions.
Official source: PSC – Second Language Evaluation
At A French Rendez-Vous, we don’t just prepare you for the SLE, we train you to become a high-performing bilingual public servant, using real-life scenarios, Canadian administrative vocabulary, and simulations aligned with PSC criteria.
- Listening comprehension: listening to announcements, meetings, and professional dialogues.
- Written expression: writing emails, memos, and reports.
- Reading comprehension: reading administrative texts, policies, and procedures.
Our courses faithfully replicate these formats with exercises drawn from real government contexts, because passing the SLE also means understanding Canadian administrative culture.
The interview lasts 20 to 40 minutes and is conducted live (often via Microsoft Teams) with a certified evaluator. You will be expected to:
- Answer open-ended questions
- Analyze a professional scenario
- Propose solutions
- Defend a viewpoint logically
At A French Rendez-Vous, we combine human expertise with advanced technology to maximize your SLE success. Our instructors, specially trained in the SLE format and official interview simulations, provide intensive, targeted, and realistic coaching. Our AI-powered oral simulator lets you practice 24/7 with instant feedback on fluency, vocabulary, and sentence structure. You’ll also benefit from over 5,000 authentic exam simulations, complemented by weekly sessions with an expert instructor to master every evaluated skill. At A French Rendez-Vous, we don’t just prepare you for an exam, we prepare you for success.
- BBB: Standard level for most bilingual positions.
- CBC / CCC: Management, leadership, or communications roles.
- Level E (Exemption): Advanced mastery (rare, but possible after several years in a francophone environment).
Over 60% of candidates fail the oral component due to lack of targeted practice. Our success rate exceeds 85% thanks to our hybrid method.
No. Only individuals sponsored by a federal department or agency can take the test. There is no “independent registration” option.
But you can start preparing with us now, even before receiving your official invitation. The more prepared you are, the faster you’ll succeed once registered.
Never. No international exam is recognized by the federal public service. Only the SLE counts.
Beware of misinformation! At A French Rendez-Vous, we clarify these myths and guide you toward the right certification at the right time.
Yes. The PSC offers reasonable accommodations (e.g., extra time, adapted format) for individuals with:
- Learning disabilities (ADHD, dyslexia, etc.)
- Sensory or cognitive impairments
- Documented medical conditions
We support you in preparing your accommodation request, with practical advice and resources tailored to your needs.
TCF Canada: Immigration & Studies
The Test de Connaissance du Français pour le Canada (TCF Canada) is an official exam recognized by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency, citizenship, or study applications.
Official source: France Éducation international – TCF Canada
We combine TCF preparation with Canadian cultural context, because successful immigration also means understanding Canada’s sociolinguistic environment.

Our platform includes authentic audio banks (airport announcements, phone dialogues, meetings) to familiarize you with the diverse accents of Canadian, European, and international French.
To earn points in Express Entry, you must achieve CLB 7 (equivalent to B2 on the Common European Framework) in all four skills.
Our students typically reach CLB 7 within 12–16 weeks through our intensive “Immigration Ready” program.
DELF
The Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) is an official diploma issued by the French Ministry of National Education, valid for life and recognized in over 170 countries.
Official source: France Éducation international – DELF
Ideal for students, newcomers, or international professionals seeking to certify their French level, even though it is not valid for Canadian federal public service positions.

- Minimum required: 5/25 per skill
- Passing score: ≥ 50/100
